The herb contains bitterness, saponins of the triterpene group, organic acids (carbolic and phenolcarboxylic), pectin and tannins, phytosterols, lipids (about 4.7%). Alfalfa flowers synthesize anthocyanins, cyanidin and its leucobase (leucocyanidin).
Alfalfa grass is rich in vitamins (vitamin A, carotenoids, Tocopherols [e vitamins], vitamins K, D, B1, B2, B12). No less interesting is the mineral composition of the grass – here calcium, silicon, phosphorus, magnesium, fluorine, iron. Alfalfa herb is used to make medicines that favorably affect the thyroid gland, stomach, and intestines. They also improve lactation, metabolism, normalize the circulatory system, increase the level of hemoglobin, and at the same time reduce cholesterol.
