Description

Chromite sand with South Africa origin for foundry

Foundry Grade chromite sand, also known as chromite ore, is a special sand for foundry. It is a natural spinel dominated by chromite. After crushing, grinding sieving and batching to typical Particle size distributions as per customers’ requirement, it is suitable for moulding in foundry.  Our standard material is a 4-sieve distribution. This means that 4 sieves contain more than 10% retained. Our current material has more than 90% on the ASTM 40-100 sieves. A typical sieve distribution is shown below.

Chromite sand has been selected and used in foundries as a result of its unique combination of properties. The properties listed below generally result in a better surface finish and reduced likelihood of casting defects.

*High thermal conductivity

* Low thermal expansion

* Wetability resistance to molten steel

* Basic to neutral pH

*High Fusion Point
